Berlin for Business Travelers

Berlin is Germany’s capital and largest city.

Although Frankfurt usually takes the glory as the German economic powerhouse, Berlin is slowly building a reputation as one of the most important business centers in Europe, particularly thanks to its growing e-commerce and internet start up scenes.

In the years following German Reunification, Berlin has grown as a major tech hub. Thousands of start-ups mushroom in Berlín every year in what is known as Silicon Allee (a play on words between Silicon Valley and the German word for avenue).

As a consequence, most of the city’s largest grossing businesses are in the technology field, with e-commerce sites, consultancy groups and a few retailers taking the lead on most Berlin business ranking lists.

Traditional manufacture is also on the rise in this traditionally service-industries-focused town.

Berlin has two main airports, Tegel Airport (TXL), located north of the city is one of the main airports in Germany. It has air connections to many European and North American destinations and it’s a secondary hub for German carrier Lufthansa. See accommodation near TXL.

There is a third airport under construction very close to SXF. Willy Brandt Airport, also known as Berlin Brandenburg is the German capital’s world-class airport, expected o finally open in late 2020.

The area around Potsdamer Platz is Berlin’s swanky new business district.

The German capital is also one of the main trade fair and events cities in Europe. Messe Berlin, also known as Berlin ExpoCenter City is one of the most important trade fair organizers in Germany. Berlin’s main exhibition grounds are located in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district.

Public Transport in Berlin is considered to be one of the best in the world. It includes an extensive metro system (U-Bahn), several suburban rail lines (S-Bahn) and a network of trams and buses. Taxis can be easily found in the most central areas of the city.
